Announcing something more than once, without being tiresome

One post reaches a fraction of your audience, so a single announcement is not an announcement. The trick is that each telling is different.

You post the launch, and it does fine, and afterwards someone who follows you closely asks when it is coming out. That is not their inattention. One post reaches a slice of your audience, and the slice is smaller than anyone expects.

Why repeating feels wrong

Because you have seen your own post twenty times while making it. To you it is old news before it goes out. To almost everyone else it has not happened yet.

A sequence that does not read as repetition

Say the same thing from a different angle each time, and it stops being a repeat and becomes a story with parts.

  1. 1The fact — this exists, this is when
  2. 2The making — a detail from the process, which is a different post about the same thing
  3. 3The reason — why it exists, what it is for, who it is for
  4. 4The reminder — short, on the day, without apology
  5. 5The after — what happened, who came, what people said

Five posts, one subject, and nobody sees them as five announcements — because four of them are about something else on the surface.

What makes it tiresome

  • The identical caption and image, more than once
  • Nothing else in between — a feed that is only a campaign
  • Urgency that was not true: three “last chance” posts teaches people to ignore the fourth

Space them with ordinary posts. The announcements land better against a background of normal work, and the account stays worth following after the launch is over.

Stop watching the clock. Start drifting.
