The early stretch is the one people quit in, because the numbers are small enough to feel personal and slow enough to feel like a verdict.
What actually moves it
- 1Being findable — a bio that says what you do, in the words somebody would search
- 2Being somewhere else too — a podcast, a market, a collaboration, a forum where you already answer questions
- 3Not stopping — the compounding is real and it is boring
That is the honest list. It has no growth hack in it, because at this size a hack that gets you two hundred uninterested accounts makes everything afterwards harder to read.
The thing that does not work
Buying followers, follow-for-follow, and engagement pods all produce a number and no audience. Worse, they teach the algorithm that people who see your posts do not care about them, which is the exact opposite of the signal you want.
What to watch instead of the count
Follows from a single post, and saves. Both say somebody decided you were worth coming back to. The follower count says only that at some point somebody clicked.
A thousand people who care beats ten thousand who do not, and it is not close. The second kind cannot be converted into the first later.
