Every social scheduler tells you the same thing at some point: your Instagram account needs to be Professional. It reads like an upsell. It isn't. Meta simply does not provide a publishing API for personal accounts, and no amount of clever engineering gets around that.
What actually exists
Instagram publishing runs through the Instagram Graph API, and that API only accepts Business and Creator accounts. There is no personal-account equivalent — not a restricted one, not a slower one. The endpoint does not exist.
Anything that claims to schedule to a personal account is doing one of two things: reminding you to post manually, or driving a logged-in session the way a person would. The second is against Instagram's terms, and the account that gets banned is yours, not theirs.
The switch is smaller than it sounds
"Professional" makes people picture a company. Creator accounts are professional accounts, they are free, and they look identical to visitors. Your posts, your followers, your bio — nothing changes on the outside.
- 1Instagram → Settings → Account type and tools
- 2Switch to professional account
- 3Choose Creator (or Business if you have a company)
- 4Pick a category — you can hide it afterwards
It takes about a minute and you can switch back whenever you like. What you gain besides scheduling: insights on reach and profile visits, which is the same data a scheduler needs to tell you when your audience is actually awake.
One thing to know before you start
Instagram publishing also needs the account linked to a Facebook Page. That is Meta's requirement, not the tool's — the API issues its publishing token through the Page.
The Page costs nothing and takes two minutes. You never have to post to it if you do not want to; it exists so Meta has something to attach permissions to.
