A vertical video is the one piece of content that moves between three big networks with almost no work. That is exactly why it is worth the small amount of work that stops it looking pasted in.
What is the same
- The shape: tall, 9:16, filling a phone screen.
- The first second decides it. Start with the point.
- Most people watch with the sound off, so the picture or the captions have to carry it.
What is different
- The interface sits on top of your video. Captions, the username, the buttons — each network puts them in a slightly different place. Keep faces and important text away from the edges and the bottom.
- Length limits differ, and they change. Check the current limit for each before you cut to the longest one.
- Text and tags are handled differently. A caption shown in full on one is cut after a line on another.
- Music licences differ. A track offered inside one app is not necessarily yours to use in another.
Watermarks
A video exported from one app usually carries that app’s logo. The other networks tend to show such videos to fewer people, and it looks careless either way. Export from the editor rather than from the first network you posted to, or keep the clean original.
A short routine
- 1Edit once, into one clean file with no watermark.
- 2Check the top and bottom for text that another network’s buttons will cover.
- 3Write the caption for each network separately, even if only a little.
- 4Space the three posts out. People who follow you in more than one place do not want the same thing three times in a minute.
Posting the same file everywhere is fine. Posting it as though nothing differs between the places is what people notice.
