Quote cards are easy to make, which is exactly why a feed is full of them. To stand out, a card has to give the reader something they cannot get from the next one.
Use your own words
A famous line shared by a thousand accounts is wallpaper. A sentence from your own work — something a customer said, something you learned the hard way — is the only version nobody else can post.
Make it readable at a glance
- One idea, short enough to read in two seconds.
- Strong contrast between text and background, and large type.
- Keep the words well inside the edges so a crop does not cut them.
- Leave space. A card that is only text and margins looks calm.
Give it a reason to be a picture
If the quote would work as a caption alone, post it as a caption. A graphic earns its place when the design adds something: a number shown large, a hand-lettered line, a real photograph behind the text.
Credit properly
If the words are not yours, name the person and, where you can, the place they said it. Do not put words in a real person’s mouth.
Look at your last five cards. If you could swap the text between them without anyone noticing, they are wallpaper.
