People ask which is better. It is the wrong question; they do opposite jobs. Instagram is good at showing you to people who have not met you. A Telegram channel is good at reaching people who have already decided they want to hear from you.
How a channel behaves
- Every post goes to every subscriber, in the order you wrote it. There is no ranking to get past.
- Subscribers get a notification, unless they muted the channel. That is stronger than a feed post that may never be shown.
- There is almost no discovery. People mostly arrive because you sent them there.
That last point is the whole design. A channel is a list of people who said yes.
How to split the work
- Instagram: the pictures, the reach, the way new people find you.
- Telegram: the news that should not be missed — a date, a release, a change in opening hours, a link that has to be clicked.
- On Instagram, invite people to the channel now and then, and from the bio. Do not expect them to find it themselves.
Keep it short and regular
A channel that sends a lot gets muted, and a muted channel is read by nobody. A few meaningful posts a week beat several a day. If you have ten things to say, send the two that matter.
Scheduling it
A channel is the easiest network to automate: the bot you create is yours, and no review stands between you and the first post. Write the week on Sunday, queue it, and let it run.
The test for a Telegram post: would I be glad to get this as a notification? If not, it belongs on Instagram, or nowhere.
